An admin's guide to boosting your Office 365 Secure Score

Your Office 365 Secure Score indicates how secure your current Office 365 environment is compared to the highest possible level of security. If your score isn't as high as you'd like it to be, there are a few things you can do to increase your Secure Score, which in turn raises your Office 365 security.

While Office 365's native tool can help you improve your Secure Score, it still has a number of limitations:

  • Only 90 days of log storage: The Security and Compliance Center only allows you to search for events that happened within the last 90 days. This limited visibility into audit logs is insufficient for performing security audits and investigations. Admins often end up exporting audit logs to get around the 90-day limit, but that eats up time and storage space.
  • Limited audit log download capability: You can only download a max of 50,000 log entries to a CSV file from a single audit log search, which isn't a lot, especially for mid-sized and large organizations.
  • Non-customizable administrator roles: The native Office 365 portal has a set of admin roles with a predetermined scope of activity and doesn't allow organizations to create custom roles.
  • Complex multi-tenant support: Office 365's native tool only supports one tenant by default. To work with multiple tenants, you’d need to create delegated admin permissions, which is cumbersome to say the least.
